KATHERINE MEAD MODERN BLOGSPOT

DESK WITH A VIEW(POINT)

October 12, 2020

Welcome to my updated website (katherinemead.com) and the reintroduction of my Blog—Katherine Mead Modern the Curated Adventures of a Mid Century Maven. My website, which has been solely dedicated to my artwork, is now including all areas of my creative life and career. It feels richer and more reflective of the varied artistic and design endeavors that have colored my career. My collage and artwork now join samples of graphic design, interior design, styling, and lighting design. It feels appropriate to have everything in one place. Now that it’s completed, I’m able to showcase the full depth and breadth of my work. This wretched pandemic has given me the luxury of time to tackle this project—a COVID silver lining.

Years ago, when working in the world of corporate interiors was not meshing with raising children, I was forced to pivot my career and learn new skills. I took classes and got serious about a side interest in graphic design. Interestingly, my work as a graphic designer gave me new opportunities as an interior designer and artist. Every new class or workshop I took built upon the skills and experience of what came before it. Each graphic project informed the next interiors work. The interiors work would often lead to art commissions.

The last five years of my life have been fraught with change and adjustment. We have moved (four times to be exact) and adjusted to the changes that empty nesting brings. There has been a healthcare crisis (endometrial cancer) and elderly parents to care for. Everyday reminds me that no matter how meticulously I plan my future—I really have very little say in what the lies ahead. I won’t stop planning but I am getting so much better at rolling with what comes my way (I’m looking at you Corona Virus.)

I hope you will peruse my website. It is a sampling of what I have been so fortunate to have done as a professional creative. I love my work and I hope you can see that in the time and care I have put into the presentation of such a varied catalog of projects.

Lastly, I’d like to send a shout out to my husband, Kevin, and my daughters Kelsey and Siobhan (who are themselves fabulously talented, bright and creative souls who encourage and push me to be better every day.) Special thanks to Siobhan for mentoring me through this web design process. Her keen eye and technical knowledge were beyond valuable. Quite frankly, I couldn’t have tackled this without her assistance.

Please come back and visit frequently as new work and blog posts will be added regularly featuring topics about art, creativity, design, studio spaces and so much more. At least that’s the plan. Cheers — KM
