“My work is a result of an ongoing exploration of the merging of collage and painting. I remain captivated with the texture of paper and the juxtaposition of contrasting materials and themes. Rough and smooth. Dark and light. Modern and traditional. Refined and rustic. Rigid and organic. Each element becomes even more striking and unique when contrasted with its opposite. The fresh, feminine beauty of a flower, contrasted with the patina of age and the rigid organization of architecture. Architecture is always on my mind. I am constantly working to translate the three dimensional to the flat world of my canvas. The merging of worlds continues in my stillscapes which are hovering somewhere between still lifes and landscapes. My modern abstracts become a study in color, shape and composition—the essential components of all artwork. They remain my favorite and most freeing works.”
“Simultaneous contrast is not just a curious optical phenomenon – it is the very heart of painting.”
– Josef Albers
